Leaving in 2 weeks

Merry Christmas! I leave for Uganda in exactly two weeks, which is crazy! I am still trying to make it feel real. Right now, I have a suitcase in the middle of my bedroom floor with numerous walmart bags of things to put inside of it, but I have yet to officially start packing. Mostly I am running around trying to figure out what things I still need to buy/find/wash...you get the picture. The packing list seems so long and yet I have been encouraged to take as few things as possible, so I am trying to find a balance between necessity and excess.

I leave for Uganda on January 8th. I will be flying out of Lousiville early that morning, heading to Dulles, in Washington D.C. I will meet up in D.C. with all of the other students doing the study program. We will fly together to Amsterdam, and then on Kampala, the captial city of Uganda. We will get to Uganda at 9PM on January 9th...which is sometime early on the 10th in U.S. time (Uganda is 7-8 hours later than Kentucky or Tennessee).

So far, I am signed up to take the following classes: Into to Missions, Faith and Action, Worldview, African Literature, and Christianity, Islam and Traditional Religions in Contemporary Uganda. I will also be doing my fieldwork for my sociology degree, which will consist of lots of reading, journals, and observation of the Ugandan people and culture and then some kind of a really long paper, to be completed at the end of the semester. So I will be plenty busy with school work while in Uganda.

I will be living in Uganda with a family, although I don't really know who they are yet. I will meet them a couple of days after arriving, which will be nerve-racking and exciting. I might have a roommate, or I might be alone with a family. I'll find that out when I get there as well.

Well, that's about all I have to say for now. I'll try to keep this site up to date. Bye for now!
